Idly Dosa Podi or Idly Dosa Chutney Powder

Idly Dosa Podi or Idly Dosa Chutney Powder is a very easy and useful recipe. It is also called as Gun Powder.You can have this Powder with Idly and Dosa. Using this idli dosa powder you can also make Podi Dosa. Even Podi Rice can be made by adding this powder with gingelly oil or ghee to plain white rice.

Ingredients

  • Bengal Gram (Channa Dal)- 1 cup
  • Black Gram (Urad Dal) – 1 cup
  • Red Chilli – 30
  • Asafoetida Powder (Hing) – 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tbsp
  • Dried Curry leaves – Few
  • Dried Thoothuvalai leaves ((Solanum trilobatum)- Few (Optional)
  • Dried Thirutvachi leaves – Few (Optional)

Instructions

1First, take an empty pan and add Bengal gram and Black gram and roast it well. After roasting, remove them from the pan and then keep it aside.

 

2Second, add dried thoothuvalai, thiruvatchi and curry leaves to the pan and roast for 1/2 minute and then keep it aside.

 

3Finally, roast red chillies without removing the stalk in order to avoid the chilli fumes which causes cough.

 

4Then, allow all the roasted ingredients to cool down. After cooling down, remove the stalk from red chilli before adding it to the mixer.

 

5First,add redchilli to the mixer and grind well. Then, add the rest of the ingredients to the mixer. Pulse it few times and check for salt. Then add required amount of salt if needed. Again, grind the ingredients into a coarse powder.

 

6Idly Dosa Podi Recipe is ready to store. You can store it in an air tight container and it will be good for 3 months without any change in the aroma and taste.

 

7You can serve this podi with idli, dosa and plain white rice by adding gingelly oil or ghee. You can also make podi dosa by using this powder.

 

Tips

While roasting red chillies, don’t remove the stalk to avoid the chilli fumes which causes cough.

To make podi dosa, add batter to the tawa and then sprinkle this idli dosa podi on top of it and apply oil in and around. You will get a tasty podi dosa.
